I always tell people who are new to Alaska or are feeling blue during the winter to get outside. At first, winter weather can be daunting but with the right clothing and footwear winter becomes magical! So, grab your layers, put on some merino under layers and socks add your pants, gloves, hat and jacket, then walk out the door. Even a short walk, ski, snowshoe adventure, no matter what the weather is doing can open your eyes and life to winter enjoyment.
Cordova Gear and Alaska Adventure Shop began because I found that good, functional properly fitting clothing was difficult to find. Ill fitting ineffective clothes can make your day outside less enjoyable. We exist to help everyone find the gear they need to happily spend time outdoors. My favorite outfits allow me to take a walk before going to work then working all day in the same comfortable clothes all day. Of course removing a layer is part of the process, but usually I work in the same pants that I walked in the rain or snow in before work. Softshell pants are my favorite for very cold weather. Our bike shop is not heated and while doing mechanical work on cold days softshell pants keep me cozy. A lighter weight stretch, wind block pant are my go to bottoms for warmer temperatures.
